character reference list and their role

Of course, I remember the "big" characters, but not so much the Twins, the woman talking to the scientists in the core, and so on. Just to make it clear, I'll list who I DO remember

Zoe, April, Kian
Brian Westinghouse
The woman that ran the inn
Blind Bob
The guy who was trapped inside April's calculator
The twins
"fat man"

That might be a fairly complete list of major characters, but for some, I can't exactly remember each of their roles (I think this is due to plugging through CH 4-the end without going to sleep!). It would be great to have a name, photo, and a summary of "what they did" in the game...

Surely there has to be a wiki that covers this somewhere?

Maybe not. Here's a list I've made. I don't think it's complete - most of the names are from the voice credits. If someone doesn't have a speaking role or their speaking role isn't credited, I may have missed them. There's also a list of characters at the end of this list who are still uncomfirmed. If you have any info on them, stick in the thread and I'll change it accordingly.

Our Protagonists
Zoë Castillo ("Tara")
April Ryan ("Scorpion", "Raven")
Kian Alvane ("Apostle")

Zoë's Family and Friends
Reza Temiz ("Jericho" - former boyfriend and reporter for the "Hand that Bites" a samisdat-style newspaper)
Olivia DeMarco ("Liv" - Hacker, Genius, Best Friend, and owner of "Alien the Cat")
Wonkers the Watilla (Zoë's somewhat outdated Watilla)
Lucia the Watilla (Reza's Watilla)
Gabriel Castillo (Zoë's father and bioengineer)
Jama Mbaye (martial arts teacher and former EYE operative)
Karen (Employee at Moca Loco and favorite barista)
Carlita (one of Zoë's local friends and guest at Zoë's "soirée" that never happens)
Katrina ("Kat" - Zoë's friend at Cape Town University. Never seen in the game, Zoë gets email from her)
David A. (Zoë's friend at Cape Town University. Never seen in the game, Zoë gets email from him)

April's Friends and the Rebels
Crow ("funny bird" - a talking black bird and April's sidekick)
Charlie (operator and former owner of "the Fringe" nightclub)
Emma de Vrijer (famed artist on Stark)
Benrime Salmin (owner of "the Journeyman Inn", Seer, and rebel supporter)
Chawan (a rebel)
Brynn (sometimes goes by "Worm", rebel and April's adopted "son")
Na'ane (Irhadi mage - known to have a "blood sister" in Irhad though she is unnamed)
Brian Westhouse (traveller from Stark to Arcadia from the 1930s stuck in time for 200 years)
Manny Chavez ("Cortez" - Dragon, presumed deceased since TLJ)
The White Dragon (Dragon polymorphed into a humanesque form, April's spiritual "sister")
Kara (rebel leader)
Jiran (rebel shown speaking with Kara)
Ayela (Chawan's love interest and perhaps a rebel as she's in the swamp city - mentioned but does not appear in the game)

The WATI Corporation and those they own
Dr. Alvin Peats ("Monster", "The Green Guy", "The Blob" - Antedeluvian scientist, inventor of the Watilla, and founder of WATI Corp)
Helena Chang (owner of Jiva Corporation and bioengineer)
Damien Cavanaugh (computer programmer and whistleblower)
Rio Kuroki (biologist, I think? And whistleblower. Spends her time in the game lying around )
The Twins (Peats' pets: Twin assassins with terrible fashion sense)
Samantha Gilmore ("Sam" Gilmore President of WATI Corp)
Faith (A girl treated like a lab animal in St. Petersburg)
Dr. Jeanne Park (Jiva scientist in St. Petersburg, part of the Faith research team)
Dr. Zubov (Jiva scientist in St. Petersburg, part of the Faith research team)
Dr. Grondal (Jiva scientist in St. Petersburg, part of the Faith research team)

Sister Sahya (Azadi Emissary to Marcuria)
Child Ena (the page who fetches Kian from the War Garden to meet with the Six)
Alisa (assumably "Child Alisa" - a page girl who serves Sister Sahya in Marcuria - has no speaking lines)
The Prophet (hooded whispering guy that April follows)
Abya, Calia, Hanna, Lenya, Maha, & Yona ("The Six" - the Empresses of the Azadi)
Amanon & Nozan (fellow trainees in the Garden of War)
Daen (part of the Marcuria occupation force)

... in Marcuria
Roper Klacks (Former Evil Overlord, Recovering Magoholic, Prisoner of a Pocket Calculator and author)
Blind Bob (a street person who isn't actually blind and a lover of wine)

More Azadis
Amanon - (the white) guy fighting Kian
Daen - The guy who escorted Kian to the Tower
Nozan - the last guy who fights Kian

Are you sure Vamon is a General? Kian calls him a Commander.

Excellent list - good work, Sianna Tors. And nice addendum, forever77.

And yes, Vamon is referred to (once) as Commander Vamon in the game, but never as a general.

List's been changed, thanks for the corrections, you two.

Incidentally, Charlie's last name isn't mentioned in DF. I think it is in TLJ. Anyone help me out?

At leat TLJwiki doesn't have it. So I'm guessing everyone's favourite ex-dancer is surnameless...

Does she actually appear in the game? I'm wondering if I should put in a ('referred to but not seen') in her description.

Never seen. Only mentioned in an optional discussion April may have with Benrime in
chapter 6. It's the same discussion in which one may find out that Na'ane is an Irhadian.
...and a whole lot of other things...

Jiran, too. Seen, but not talked to. Not a human. In Chapter 10, talking with Kara previous
to April butting in.

He is a "player", as Marcus would've put it.

Well, either you have to choose exactly the right dialogue when your talking to him (you just have to try out the different option until you get it right) or you can wait a while after he leaves and meet her by the ticket automate.

One more character
Beonon - the guy who is peckish in Friar's Keep.

You would think I'd remember these people. But I don't. I've added them. Thanks everyone, keep them coming.

Sheesh, Charlie is never given a last name? I'll have to email Tornquist about that. That such a major character is some hoi polloi without even being worth a last name...

I've also added that "small" detail about Na'ane being Irhadi.

While it's accepted by many that Helena Chang is Zoë and Faith's mother, it's only a theory. It's not stated explicitly - and it would change the story a lot if she were (or weren't) - and I'm generally trying to avoid huge spoilers in the character descriptions.

But we are on the spoilery board, aren't we? But still, I understand what you mean. Btw, thanks for teaching me how to save people's romances - I'd never guess it myself. =)

wow, great thread! when will tljwiki be up for dreamfall stuff finally?

Just a couple of further very minor characters you may have missed are suggested by the art book found in the limited edition: Nana Nya (I think she is the old lady going by Marcuria's streets who seems to part for the Azadi, you can't have a dialogue with here, but she delivers three different lines when you talk to her (and her name should appear in the journal, though I have to check that, I took the name from the book). And Usman, which I think is the child playing in Casablanca's streets (I'm not sure though.. it's a child in one of the drawings in the book).

And the dark people, I think they're missing in the list. I know they're like all one, but I believe we can discern at least two singularities: the one dwelling the city, and the one at Marcuria's port (I have to check for the names that the dialogue journal gives to them)

Great! I've added Nana Nya to the list above.

There's a few people walking around the Souk area that are named in the Dialogue files, but I'm not sure exactly who they are. Usman is one of those people. If you can get me a confirmation on who Usman is, I'll add him.

I'm not so sure about the Dark People, considering they don't really have names. If I added Dark People, I might have to start adding in other unnamed people you see around the game. "Dispossessed Art Teacher Sitting Around Trash Can Fire."
