In order to get it to work you need to either update the starforce driver (for the copy protection), or install a no-cd patch. I suggest you do the latter. You can for instance find patches at gamecopyworld.com

The driver can't be updated for Windows 7 because the new driver's interface requires a complete recompilation of the game. Using the second method is not recomended either because you get a shitload of malware.

You can't update to the latest version of Starforce, no, but the second update method (for older drivers) mentioned on the Starforce page works fine.

But the older drivers only support up to Windows Vista. The interface changed when Windows 7 didn't have the same architecture as Windows Vista.

Actually Win7 uses the same driver design as Vista did, it was between Vista and XP the change happened. Besides, the second option has been tried on Win7 and found to be working.

It goes against what the Starforce developers told me but I might try that if it works anyway. What version is it?

Go here, go to section 2 (for "drivers older than 5.5", and download & run SFDRVUP, after installing DF but before rebooting.

Strange, I could have sworn it'd worked before. But just get a no-cd patch, then.

I rather wait for an official patch since I know that the crack has malware and I only have the antivirus that comes with Windows 7. It took weeks to install Visual Studio 6 and I doubt that I can do it again.

No, the no-cd doesn't have any malware or viruses, I've tried it on multiple computers running at least three different anti-viruses and two anti-malware programs.

Also, I wouldn't hold my breath for an official patch.

I have only heard of one no-cd patch that gives malware.
Where can I find this no-cd patch without malware?

You can try these nocd. I checked several of them with antivirus and there are no viruses.

I recommend the "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey v1.03 [MULTI] Fixed EXE" one. (The patch mentioned there only works correctly on the french edition, I believe)
