I was just wondering, will there be any avatars available, or do we have to upload them? And will there be any TLJ forum titles? I'm now a Junior Member :(.

Btw, there are many options available such as 'attach file' and 'upload avatar' that aren't alowed on the Midgard and AO forums, are they going to be disallowed?
I'm not complaining here, I know that these forums are just up, I was just wondering :).

We can definately do the forum titles. Got an suggestions as to what you'd like to see?

As for avatars, I think I might have a trial basis for them to see how it goes with everyone being able to add their own avatar. :)

That's nice of you Cosmik :). But can you please change the maximum avatar size from 50x50 to 80x80 or higher? It's so small now :(.
As for the forum titles, here are some suggestions (it's late, but I'll try):

0 posts: Elgwan
50 posts: Alchemist
150 posts: Sorcerer
500 posts: Artisan
1500 posts: The Balance (I got that one from The Divide forums, but I just can't think of a better one! :))

Ok, I want to show this avatar. It's a modified picture of a concept picture of Cortez. The only thing is that I can't use it (yet), cause it's 80x80, and the maximum avatar size is set at 50x50 :(.

Here's the same image resized to 50x50:

I know that's possible, but don't you think it's a little small?

Am I the only one here who already has an avatar?

RaMa

Nope, Curzon already has one too.

Cosmik

Changed it to 80x80. Have a go now, RaMa.

how about a Draic Kin rank? That would be pretty cool...

RaMa

I asked to replace the 'The Balance' rank with 'Guardian' because they don't have 'Guardian' on The Divide.
I've seen a Draic-Kin rank on The Divide, so I don't think it's very original.

Hehe. Okay, maybe 7 months or so :p.
But remember that I have vacation now and I don't have much to do, so I have enough time to check the forums 5 times a day or something like that ;).

But I am the head poster on the Midgard forums, so it's not only the vacation ;).

Yes that is a pic of my trader beholding a sun setting over the desolate deserts of Newland. Or, into the void of himself if you prefer. :)

You didn't have to make a new post to be able to test your avatar. You could just look at one of your previous posts :).

And so it seems :P But oh! How late this knowlegde comes to me. :)

I'm sorry... how would I add an avatar to my message?

the Poet

see if this link (http://forums.longestjourney.com/misc.php?s=&action=faq&page=1#avatar) helps.

I found out where the name avatar comes from, an avatar is when the Hindu god Vishnu (and other gods too probably) takes form as an animal or human. There have been nine avatars the 9th was Buddha, who created Buddhism.

Who was the Buddha an avatar of?

the Poet
11-13-2002, 03:11 PM
Vishnu
the god has had nine avatars, number nine was Buddha.

sorry if I have misunderstood your question now.

wandrew

No, that was what I was asking. I guess it was kinda a stupid question, you had mentioned it in the original post.

Is that according to the Hindus?

the Poet
11-14-2002, 08:36 AM
yep, they are waiting for avatar number ten acctually, and they have probably been waiting for hundreds of years.

wandrew

Would that be the Maitreya/Metta Buddha? Just had to write an essay on the future of Western Buddhism, and had a look at the iconography of Maitreya. Seems they tend to think he will come from the West, and I've got some interesting pictures of Buddhas meditating in Western chairs, etc...

There are statues of Maitreya with blue eyes...weird.

I have no idea what you are talking about wandrew, sorry. I just had a small test about hinduism and buddhism in school, nothing more.

Sorry, I possess the uncanny ability to make an arse of myself. In any situation.

As I'm only playing TLJ for the second time ever, and the first time in 6 months, I can't remember if its explained in the game but...

...do they explain why Cortez and McAllen appear as humans? Is that an avatar thing?

the Poet
11-17-2002, 02:21 PM
I think you are onto something there, about them being avatars of some sort.
I am also playing it for the second time.:)

wandrew
11-18-2002, 04:58 AM
Okay, just finished again.

In the Enclave's library, the book April reads about dragons talks about them as sometimes "in their winged-lizard form", and Cortez refers to McAllen's being in the shape of a man...

My question is, is the winged-lizard from their natural form? Are they really 'incorporeal', or at least shape-shifters?

And why does the Old God/Blue have to be so damn big and, well...weird looking? I still can't work out what he looks like when he rises above the sea (that wasn't the shadow ship, was it?)...

Anyone?
