I cannot get past the scene just before Zoe is introduced. The screen fills with distorted, patterned, multi-colored textures and the sound loops. I have to power off the computer. I don't often run into problems like this any longer. I keep a very clean and well run system.
I actually use a nvidia 6800 GT 256MB vidcard which isn't listed anywhere I can find as being problematic, yet, only with Dreamfall does this happen. I keep things running very well on my system. I play Oblivion, Guild Wars, EVE, and other games regularly without these errors. I use an Audigy2 ZS soundcard. Power-supply is high quality and has 2 rails of 12v, with the graphics card on its own rail. Air flow in and out of the case is great and ambient temp is low enough. I can monitor my fans, voltages, and temperatures very easily and they're monitored live.
I've reverted to the 81.98 drivers. I removed current drivers and then used driver cleaner in safe mode before installing these. The problem persists no matter my sound scheme selection and it doesn't appear to matter having video at ultra or high. I started a new game after changing these settings just to be sure no old settings were loading with a saved game.
So I don't know what else to do at this point. My experience tells me this is something that's going to need to be patched at some point.

Have you got the latest motherboard chipset drivers installed?
Have you tried using Creative's Software Autoupdate for the Audigy 2 (available on Creative.com)?
Have you tried removing everything that's running in the background?
For troubleshooting purposes, have you tried using minimum graphics settings?
Have you tried downloading and installing the latest release of DirectX9.0c (April)?

1) I do
2) I have the most recent drivers for the audigy 2. Development is not very active any longer there.
3) Between my initial post and this reply, yes I have tried the lowest settings. Same results.
4) I have the latest release of D9, the april distribution.
Good questions, thanks for asking. :)
If anything, my intuition is telling me this is a driver issue of some sort, just as the 6600 users have experienced and has been documented at Aspyr. I did open a ticket at Aspyr too to see if they have any official findings already to add to their knowledgebase.
I'd like to hear back from another 6800 GT (or maybe the other versions) user with details of their experiences as well, good or bad. The key word is details though. "It works" isn't helpful. Nice, but not constructive :)

An update. I'm now running dreamfall without any errors. I'm running perfectly at ultra video quality and full audio. No more crashes, and image quality is amazing.
What I did was give a tweaked video driver a try, based upon a very recent beta nvidia driver.

Looks like it really is a driver issue.

I'm having the same problem. I'm running geforce 6600 GT. I tried to install new directx driver without any luck. Though I would try to tweek the display drivers and see if that helps. Please let me know if you are getting any progress.

yes as I said just above, I'm now running dreamfall perfectly! I used the driver I linked to just above. I'm using a 6800 GT however.
padda, in your case, I've read that reverting to driver version 81.98 will help 6600 users. That info is also at the aspyr support site.
Here's a link to the 81.98 drivers for you to try.

Uninstall your current nvidia video drivers before installing these. Uninstall them from the add/remove programs area of control panel. Only remove the video drivers.

I have Geforce 5200 and can't play Dreamfall. Is there a way I can do what you did to update? I am willing to buy a new video card if I knew which one to buy. My problem is that I have PCI interface and the choices of cards are slim for it. Any suggestions?
Do I uninstall the old ones first and then when I download the new ones do they automatically install themselves?

Like Padda I also got a 6600 GT
And I tried the forcewareultra 84.43 beta drivers, without any luck, actually it failed in both the cleanup process, and if I ignored that then it failed to install it with the argument that the devide could not be found.
I took that as a implication that it did not support my card.
I also tried useing the 84.56 and 84.21 versions without any succes.
Got the newest Directx version (april) release.
Have tried running the game at both lowest and highest quality, still the same problem. (made sure that there was no forced FSAA or aniostopic filters on!)
Since I assume that sound drivers would not be responsible of a grafical problem, then I have not testet anything there, mainly due to the fact that its just the onboard soundcard I use atm.
As for heating and other problems of that kind, then I have no problems with overheating on either CPU or GPU, both are well below 50 degrees celsius at all times.
Hope this will help in solveing the problem!

There should be no difference in terms of the number of cards supported. I personally use 84.43 with my 6600GT.
I recommend you run Driver Cleaner Pro. After a reboot try 84.43 again. If they don't install, try 84.56. It could be that your drivers aren't updated properly when you're changing between versions.
This of course is assuming you've tried 81.98 already.

Ok I tried experimenting a bit with the driver cleaner, and after trying 84.43 and 84.56 with no succces, I tried to go back to 81.98 which made it work.
Now I just hope that any of my other games wont suffer from this. But in the worst case I know now how to redo the entire process with another driver.
So thanks Heinz Harald for the hints, and about the driver cleaner, it seemed I had a bit more junk laying about then I knew about! Now I just hope that I wont run into more problems along the way, since from what I have just testet of the game it looks like I will enjoy it!

I can confirm that these work on my 6800GT, with a bit of a speed boost too :)
